Chinese Snooker Players Shine as Ding Junhui, Wu Yize and Zhou Yuelong Reach Last 16

On September 10 Beijing time, good news came from the 2026 English Open snooker tournament. In the recently concluded last-64 round, this year's World Championship winner Wu Yize and former Rookie of the Year Pang Junxu defeated their opponents Xu Si and Ross Muir by 4-2 and 4-3 respectively to advance to the last 16. In addition, Ding Junhui, known as China's top player, along with Zhou Yuelong, Yuan Sijun and Gong Chenzhi, also performed well and reached this stage.

Recently, snooker events have been held frequently, including the Shanghai Masters, China Open, Wuhan Open and English Open. Young player Chang Bingyu won his first ranking title at the Wuhan event. On the opening day of the last-64 to last-32 matches, Ding Junhui, Chang Bingyu, Zhang Anda and four other players all advanced strongly. Among them, Luo Zetao unexpectedly defeated World Championship winner Neil Robertson 4-3, providing a major boost for the Chinese team. It is worth noting that newly crowned champion Chang Bingyu advanced automatically after Jak Jones withdrew.

In the following last-32 to last-16 stage, Ding Junhui, Chang Bingyu, Zhou Yuelong, Zhang Anda, Wang Xinbo, Gong Chenzhi and Luo Zetao once again competed together last night, with the group maintaining its strong performance. Ding Junhui was particularly impressive as he secured another victory, defeating Ashley Hugill 4-2. Zhou Yuelong edged former Shoot Out champion Chris Wakelin 4-3 in a close contest, Yuan Sijun overcame Oliver Lines 4-3 after a tough battle, and Gong Chenzhi also performed strongly by eliminating Luo Zetao 4-1, after Luo had defeated Robertson in the previous round.

There were also some disappointments. Wuhan Open champion Chang Bingyu lost 3-4 to Kyren Wilson in their match. Similarly, International Championship winner Zhang Anda narrowly lost 3-4 after a hard-fought battle against four-time World Championship winner Mark Selby.
