Experience Prevails as Ding Junhui Beats O'Connor 4-1 to Reach Quarterfinals, Wu Yize Eliminated in Upset

Several last-16 matches of the Snooker English Open have concluded, with multiple Chinese players taking part. Some advanced while others were eliminated. Forty-year-old Ding Junhui produced a strong performance, defeating O'Connor 4-1 to reach the quarterfinals, while Wu Yize lost 1-4 to young player Davies.

O'Connor had been considered a difficult opponent for Ding Junhui. The two players had met twice before, with Ding suffering two consecutive defeats. Although Ding was not favored before the match, he delivered an impressive performance. After winning the opening frame, Ding saw O'Connor level the score, but then won three straight frames to take a 4-1 victory and end his previous two-match losing streak in their head-to-head record.

In this match, the 40-year-old Ding Junhui did not produce a century break, but he showed his experience and composure. His cue-ball control, accuracy, and mentality all improved. This was also Ding's first three-match winning streak of the season. Earlier this season, he exited early at the China Open, Wuhan Open, and Shanghai Masters.

Next, Ding Junhui will face Kyren Wilson. Wilson has defeated Chinese players in several events this season, and it remains to be seen whether Ding can continue his run.

In another match, Wu Yize continued to struggle with his form. Against Scottish youngster Davies, Wu fell behind after losing three consecutive frames at the start. Although he recovered a frame in the fourth, in the crucial fifth frame, after his opponent missed a green ball, Wu also missed a green ball near the pocket. He eventually handed the victory to his opponent, losing 1-4 and missing the next round.

In other matches involving Chinese players, Pang Junxu fought through seven frames before losing 3-4 to Shaun Murphy, while Gong Chenzhi lost 2-4 to Carter.
