Premier League Most Valuable Squads Ranking: Liverpool Top, Arsenal Only Sixth

The Premier League squad value rankings have been released, with some surprising results — reigning champions Arsenal are only sixth, while Liverpool top the list with a total squad value of £980 million, despite the Reds winning no trophies last season and finishing only fifth in the league.

Liverpool take top spot, Manchester City drop to second

Liverpool's huge investment was mainly concentrated in last summer's transfer window, when they broke the British transfer record twice by signing Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak. Near the end of this summer's transfer window, the Reds spent another £123 million to bring in French winger Bradley Barcola. These moves pushed Liverpool's squad value to £980 million, surpassing Manchester City to become the Premier League's most valuable squad.

Manchester City follow closely behind at £969 million. The Sky Blues were the biggest buyers in the transfer market this summer, completely rebuilding their midfield by signing Enzo Fernandez, Ayoub Bouaddi and Elliot Anderson to fill the gap left by Rodri's departure. Manchester City no longer having the most valuable squad is somewhat surprising.

Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham rank third to fifth

Chelsea rank third with a squad value of £918 million. The Blues are also among the biggest sellers in this year's transfer market, which helped them fund the expensive signing of Morgan Rogers, while Maxence Lacroix's transfer fee was also significant. It is worth noting that the total value of Chelsea's loaned-out players is higher than the combined squad values of Leeds United, Sunderland, Coventry City and Hull City.

Manchester United rank fourth with a squad value of £862 million. The Red Devils have been more cautious in recruitment this year, but their squad still includes many high-value players, including new signing Carlos Baleba. Some previous big-money signings such as Sancho and Antony failed to fully meet expectations and have recently been moved on.

Tottenham rank fifth with a squad value of £852 million. After finishing 17th in the Premier League for two consecutive seasons, Tottenham invested heavily this summer, bringing in players such as Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Omar Marmoush for Roberto De Zerbi. However, some signings such as Savio may be considered overpriced. After such significant spending, Tottenham will need at least European qualification this season or they will face major pressure.

Arsenal win through efficiency

Arsenal rank sixth with a squad value of £848 million. The Gunners were much more active in last summer's transfer window than this year, but overall, given the continued heavy spending by many rivals, Arsenal's ability to win the Premier League title is still worthy of praise.
