Basler: Bayern Are Playing 'Sleep Football' and Will Also Face Problems on the International Stage

In the second round of the Bundesliga, Bayern drew 0-0 away against Schalke 04. After the match, German legend Mario Basler criticized Bayern's performance on a podcast program.

On his own podcast "Basler ballert," Basler gave clear criticism of Bayern's 0-0 draw with Schalke and said that the Bundesliga giants were playing "sleep football."

Basler believes that Bayern's more than 80% possession ultimately had little meaning because the team struggled to create enough scoring chances from it.

"This kind of football no longer works. Bayern will also encounter problems on the international stage because of it," said the 57-year-old Basler.

He also criticized coach Vincent Kompany's decision not to start Harry Kane and Michael Olise. In Basler's view, both players should have started, and if Bayern had taken the lead, they could have been given a rest afterward.

Basler criticizes Bayern youngster Karl

Basler also discussed young player Lennart Karl, who was given a starting opportunity. Karl started against Schalke and was substituted in the 57th minute.

In Basler's view, Karl's performance was "very arrogant" and "self-important." Basler even believes that if the 18-year-old does not change his approach, he could face problems at Bayern in the future.

However, Basler's criticism is unlikely to cause much reaction on Säbener Straße. Kompany said after the match that although the team did not get everything right throughout the 90 minutes, they generally still showed a good performance. Relevant statistics also support his view.

In addition, Kompany explained why Kane and Olise were not included in the starting lineup. However, Basler was clearly unable to accept this explanation.
