Official: Manchester City's Nico Gonzalez Joins Newcastle, Transfer Fee Reaches £50 Million

Beijing time August 27, Manchester City midfielder Nico Gonzalez's transfer to Newcastle has been officially announced, and the player will wear Newcastle's No. 6 shirt.

According to previous media reports, Nico Gonzalez's transfer fee is £47 million in fixed payments plus £3 million in add-ons, with the total value able to reach £50 million.

Manchester City's official announcement stated:

Nico Gonzalez has left Manchester City and joined Newcastle United on a permanent transfer.

This marks the end of the Spanish midfielder's 18-month spell here. During this period, the 24-year-old player made 59 appearances for the club in all competitions and scored four goals.

Nico Gonzalez also contributed to Manchester City's victories in the 2026 League Cup and FA Cup. In last season's FA Cup semi-final, he scored a brilliant winning goal to help the team defeat Southampton.

Nico is a technically gifted defensive midfielder. He joined Manchester City from Porto in January 2025 and quickly became a popular and respected member of the team among supporters.

However, he will now represent Newcastle and take on a new challenge in the Premier League.

Newcastle United are delighted to announce the signing of Spanish midfielder Nico Gonzalez from Manchester City, with the two sides agreeing a long-term contract.

The 24-year-old player came through Barcelona's famous La Masia academy, will wear the No. 6 shirt, and becomes the seventh first-team signing for the club this summer.

Nico said: "I am really happy to join this great club. Everything I had heard before was positive about the club and the city, so I am looking forward to living here and becoming part of this project."
