Cuthbert's open letter: Grateful for ten years with the Blues, looking forward to writing a new chapter at Stamford Bridge

After officially being appointed as Chelsea Women's new captain, Scottish midfielder Erin Cuthbert wrote an open letter to share her thoughts with all Blues supporters, reflecting on her ten years with Chelsea, the responsibility of captaincy, the team's changes and her gratitude toward the fans.

“I feel incredibly honored to be appointed as the team's captain. This responsibility has fallen on my shoulders, and I am full of anticipation as I embrace the challenge.”

“When I was 18, I was just an inexperienced Scottish girl who came here. Ten years later, I never imagined I would reach this point. From the moment I stepped into the Cobham training ground, this place felt like home. The first time I wore the Chelsea shirt, everything felt absolutely right. My teammates, staff and everyone at the club immediately gave me a sense of belonging.”

Respecting previous captains and taking on the responsibility of carrying on the legacy

Cuthbert said she deeply respects every previous captain of the club. Over the past ten years, she has witnessed unprecedented growth in Chelsea Women's team and has learned a great deal from her predecessors, remaining forever grateful. Taking over the captain's armband means carrying a significant responsibility, and she will never take it lightly.

“The club now has comprehensive resources and facilities in place. The foundations are ready, and it is now up to us players to deliver on the pitch. I value the club's history and heritage greatly, as this is the foundation of Chelsea's success. We will continue to carry this tradition forward in the future.”

The team enters a new era: moving to Stamford Bridge and welcoming squad changes

The club is currently in an exciting period, with new signings and new coaching staff members arriving. Most importantly, the women's team will officially use Stamford Bridge as its home ground. The club's back office is also advancing many positive changes to help the women's team continue to progress. As captain leading the team through this period, I feel extremely proud.

“We have an excellent team full of desire to win, and the staff behind the scenes are also highly capable. Everyone is united in wanting to make Chelsea the best possible club, and I am incredibly excited for everything ahead.”

A message to the fans: You are an indispensable part of the team's success

“Words cannot describe what the fans mean to me. Some supporters have been with me for more than ten years, and I have seen you more often than I have seen my own family. You have always stood by us during difficult moments, and that is one of the important reasons we have been able to win 18 trophies. Every trophy has made my sacrifices away from home worthwhile. Chelsea has become my second home, and we are deeply connected.”

“Now that we have arrived at Stamford Bridge, the fans deserve to share the rewards of victory with us. I still remember when I first joined, many supporters followed us to play at our old home ground in Staines; you traveled across the country and even across continents for European matches. For some Champions League games, fans even traveled away shortly before Christmas. It is your support that gives the team extra motivation. Many memorable battles, such as the matches against Lyon and the comeback against Manchester City, would not have become possible without the fans.”

Chelsea Women's team has a philosophy of “never stop”. In Cuthbert's view, this means refusing to give up in difficult situations, fighting until the final moment and doing everything possible to win. The team wants to keep growing, compete for more trophies and unlock its full potential.
