Mundo Deportivo: Julian Alvarez’s Move to Arsenal Becoming Less Likely, Arteta’s Response Fuels Speculation

According to Mundo Deportivo, on the final day of the transfer window, Julian Alvarez’s situation at Atletico Madrid had basically not changed. The possibility of him moving to Barcelona has been ruled out, and he has already returned to Atletico for training. Although Arsenal remains an option, the likelihood of that move is becoming increasingly small.

Despite three months of continuous speculation, Alvarez had also expressed his desire to move to Barcelona, but Atletico Madrid has firmly closed the door on any negotiations with the Catalan club, rejecting a lucrative offer and receiving support from its new majority shareholder, the US fund Apollo Sports Capital.

However, reports from England suggest that Arsenal could make a final attempt to sign Atletico forward Alvarez. After Premier League defending champions Arsenal defeated Aston Villa, manager Mikel Arteta was asked about rumors regarding a move for Alvarez, making the situation even more noteworthy.

Arteta’s response further intensified speculation: “I don’t know, that is something for the board to decide.” According to journalist David Ornstein, although Arsenal are interested in signing Julian Alvarez and are reportedly willing to pay €150 million, the player has indicated that he does not want to join the London club and instead prioritizes a move to Barcelona.

Atletico Madrid, through its CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin, made it clear that it will not negotiate with Barcelona over Julian Alvarez’s transfer. Although the club acknowledged that it would consider allowing him to leave if he feels he cannot adapt, it will never let him move to the Catalan club.
