Liverpool have agreed to sign young winger Gillian Nguessan from Saint-Etienne, with the transfer fee set at €5 million.

The 18-year-old player has made 11 appearances for France U17 and scored 11 goals, and he will officially become a Liverpool player in January next year.

Nguessan will join Ligue 1 side Brest on loan during the first half of this season. Liverpool will decide in January next year whether to keep him in France or bring him back to Anfield.

Nguessan impressed at the 2025 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, scoring four goals, being named in the tournament's best XI, and helping France reach the final.

The forward is the second young player Liverpool have agreed to sign this week. Before this, the Reds had agreed to sign goalkeeper Luca Brugmans, whose initial transfer fee is lower but whose total cost could rise to as much as £30 million depending on clauses.

Over the past 12 months, Liverpool's global talent team have also brought in other young players, including goalkeeper Armin Pesci, centre-back Mohr Tara Ndiaye and Ifeanyi Nduke, as well as midfielder Samuel Martinez, as part of their future planning.
