De Siervo made the remarks while presenting a study that selected the 100 best young Italian players. At the time, he took part in a discussion session titled "What age groups should youth teams use?", which was part of the study presentation.

De Siervo explained that the idea came from his observations of many players who were born in France but went on to represent other national teams. He said: "We want to use these data to establish a long-term monitoring platform. As Serie A, we hope to provide this approach to the entire system, work together with other parties, and continuously monitor everything that is happening. Our goal is to start a dialogue, and we will continue working with all sides in this direction."
