Mertens: De Bruyne is used to Manchester City's style, Napoli teammates still need to adapt

Former Napoli forward Dries Mertens said while commentating on Prime Video during Napoli's defeat to Arsenal in their first match of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League league phase: "The bench will always make a difference in the long run. It was unfortunate that they conceded, and after that they had more space, but the substitutions still had an impact."
In the second half, Arsenal brought on Guimaraes, Tzolis, Havertz, Madueke and Zubimendi one after another, showing the depth of their squad.
When asked how he rated De Bruyne's performance, Mertens replied: "He is used to Manchester City's way of playing and knows there will always be many players in the penalty area. I think the Napoli players still need to understand him better. Kevin always sends the ball to the far post, and he has always done that."
