According to German media reports, Matthaus believes Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane is the biggest favorite for last season's Ballon d'Or.

Germany legend Lothar Matthaus said he hopes Kane wins the award, "not only because he is a Bayern player, but also because he is an excellent ambassador." Matthaus made these comments on Bild's program "Lothar Talks."
Matthaus listed three reasons supporting England captain Kane: he won a domestic double with Bayern and helped England reach the World Cup semifinals; none of the other candidates is an obvious leading favorite; in addition, Kane plays a "role model" role in the sport.
Matthaus said: "Everyone has gained something. But ultimately, if you add up all the achievements, you have to say that, in my view, Harry Kane is ahead of everyone else."
The 33-year-old Kane is one of the 30 Ballon d'Or nominees, and France Football will hold the awards ceremony in London on October 26. Kane's Bayern Munich teammates Luis Diaz, Olise and Upamecano have also been nominated.
