Evening Standard: Manchester United Turn Attention to Newcastle's Thiaw, Valued at £70m

According to the latest report from the Evening Standard, Manchester United are ready to abandon their interest in Lewis Hall and instead pursue his Newcastle teammate.

The summer transfer window has passed, with Manchester United completing a very busy recruitment period at Old Trafford, while the team's midfield has also been rebuilt.

However, Carrick's defence still has question marks. Left-back is regarded as one of the positions most in need of reinforcement, Luke Shaw does not have a genuine replacement, and Manchester United will compete on four fronts this season.

Manchester United monitored Newcastle and England full-back Lewis Hall throughout the summer, but they never made an official offer because Newcastle insisted he was not for sale.

Reports from the Tyne and Wear area also stated that Hall is expected to receive a two-year contract extension, with Jaisser wanting to keep him at St James' Park for the long term.

As a result, Manchester United have reportedly shifted their attention to Hall's teammate Malick Thiaw, who is considered a potential target.

The 25-year-old Thiaw only joined Newcastle from AC Milan last summer and impressed during his debut season. He can play both centre-back and right-back.

However, it remains to be seen whether Newcastle are willing to sell him. Thiaw is only in the second year of a long-term contract, and he has already worn the captain's armband at the start of this season following Dan Burn's injury.

According to Caught Offside, Newcastle could set a price tag of up to £70 million for the German player, with Liverpool also believed to be interested in the deal.

However, Manchester United are putting together a shortlist of candidates, and it is widely expected that they will push to sign a left-back in January or next summer to strengthen Carrick's squad.

Reports from Germany also state that they are monitoring Borussia Dortmund's Daniel Svensson.
