Another Chinese Super League Team Faces Relegation Crisis! Transfer Market Set to Open, African Star Could Become Highly Sought After

In the 26th round of the Chinese Super League, Qingdao Hainiu, who fielded only two foreign players, lost 1-2 away to Dalian Yingbo and suffered their ninth consecutive league defeat. They have earned only 14 points in the standings and remain at the bottom, eight points away from escaping the relegation zone. With only four rounds left in the league, Qingdao Hainiu have almost secured a relegation spot.

For many Qingdao Hainiu supporters, another relegation to China League One would be disappointing news. Founded in 1993, the long-established club was Qingdao's first professional football team. Over more than three decades, it has experienced ups and downs in Chinese football, dropping from the Chinese Super League to China League One and China League Two before fighting back and returning to the top division in 2023.

Unfortunately, as a small club that has struggled to survive with private investment, Qingdao Hainiu is experiencing the low point after the era of big-spending football. Their persistence today is also moving, and the difficulties involved are likely understood most deeply by the investors behind the club.

Although Hainiu's financial strength cannot be compared with major clubs from the same province such as Shandong Taishan, Shanghai Port and Guoan, Qingdao Hainiu has never abandoned its pursuit of competitive achievements. Since returning to the Chinese Super League in 2023, the team has narrowly avoided relegation for two consecutive seasons.

Affected by historical match-fixing, gambling and corruption cases, nine Chinese Super League clubs including Qingdao Hainiu received point deductions of varying degrees this season. Hainiu started the campaign with a disadvantage of -7 points, which was a major setback for an already highly competitive team and made a comeback to avoid relegation extremely difficult.

In addition, the club failed to retain Li Xiaopeng, who guided the team to successful survival last season, and instead brought in foreign coach Ristic, which proved to be a poor decision. Although Ristic's coaching philosophy is relatively advanced, he appeared insufficiently prepared for managing a modestly resourced team of this type, resulting in a season full of defeats and leaving the club deeply trapped in the relegation battle.

Even though relegation appears to be an obvious trend, several Qingdao Hainiu players have still attracted attention from many Chinese Super League clubs. Among them, foreign players such as Yeboah and Ejuma, as well as domestic young talents including Jin Yonghao, Li Suda, Gong Ruicong and Kuang Zhaolei, are all considered popular targets.

In particular, Ghana international Yeboah, whose market value is as high as 1 million euros, has outstanding individual skills and has scored seven goals for the team this season. With his contract set to expire at the end of the year, the Ghanaian foreign player will become a free agent and is expected to attract strong interest in the transfer market.
