Official: Crystal Palace sign 18-year-old Moroccan defender Taha Majeni

Official news on September 8 Beijing time: Crystal Palace have signed 18-year-old Moroccan defender Taha Majeni.

Officially, Crystal Palace Academy are delighted to confirm the signing of Taha Majeni from Moroccan club Toga Union.

The 18-year-old player has become the first player to move directly from the Moroccan professional league to a Premier League club.

Majeni developed in Toga Union's academy and made his first-team debut in June 2025, appearing in a cup semi-final victory over Wydad Fes.

He is a versatile player capable of playing as a centre-back or right-back. He has since made 17 first-team appearances, including 15 appearances last season (13 starts).

He was also part of Morocco's historic title-winning team at last year's Chile U-20 World Cup, helping his country lift the trophy for the first time. At just 17 years old, he helped the team defeat Brazil, Spain, France and Argentina before winning the tournament.

After that, Majeni was promoted to the Morocco U-23 national team, making two appearances in March, including a start in the 2-2 draw against Ivory Coast.

Majeni is a technical defender who enjoys physical battles. He will join Darren Powell's U-21 squad and take part in Premier League 2, the Premier League International Cup and the EFL Trophy.

After signing, Majeni said: “Crystal Palace are one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League and even in the world. They have achieved many things in recent years, and I am excited to begin a new journey at the club.”

Academy director Gary Issott said: “Taha had an excellent 2025/26 season, gaining valuable first-team experience in Morocco's top division and helping Morocco win the U-20 World Cup at just 17 years old.”

“He is a talented and well-rounded defender, and his performances have left a deep impression on us. We believe Crystal Palace is the right environment for him to continue developing.”
