Gattuso: We are changing the system established by 4-3-3 master Sarri

After Lazio came from behind to defeat Udinese, head coach Gennaro Gattuso spoke to Sky Sport about the team's performance, tactical adjustments and the upcoming match against Milan.

Gattuso first praised the team's performance: “Congratulations to the lads, because the way they work is incredible. We are happy, but we have to keep looking forward. This is a very difficult league to play in.”

He also gave special praise to the referee of the match: “Congratulations to the referee as well. The way they are officiating matches now is very good. You no longer see those acts of simulation and time-wasting on the pitch, and even viewers in front of the television will no longer want to change channels.”

When discussing the biggest impression this Lazio side had left on him, Gattuso said the team's mentality and fighting spirit, as well as its willingness to try different ways of playing, had surprised him.

“What surprises me most about this Lazio is the team's mentality, fighting spirit, and attitude of being willing to try different styles of play. We are changing the system established by Sarri, the master of 4-3-3. It is not easy to play the way we want, because it requires constant running and continuous pressure on our opponents.”

Gattuso also spoke about the team's adjustment after losing to Mantova in the Coppa Italia: “The team quickly recovered its form after losing to Mantova. Now we hope to continue working like this. I am very proud to coach Lazio, and I hope that one day the fans can return to the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, because we truly miss them.”

Ahead of the next home match against his former club AC Milan, Gattuso also spoke about the special meaning the game holds for him.

“I spent many years with Milan as a player, and I will never forget that connection. But now I am in a different profession, and I hope to take points from Milan.”
