Ivan Azon: Bordalas says he has been following me for years

According to Diario Sport, Zaragoza native Ivan Azon, Getafe's new striker, revealed at a press conference on Thursday that Getafe coach Jose Bordalas had been following his performances for many years. He said he accepted the invitation without hesitation after receiving the call from Getafe.

"This was not the first time the club contacted me, mainly because of the coach. I spoke with him before I came, and he told me that he had started following me many years ago and had always remembered me. It did not work out last year, but when I received the club's call this year, I seized the opportunity without hesitation. It was a wonderful opportunity," he said at his unveiling ceremony.

Azon joined Getafe on loan from Italian club Como for one season. He admitted that he was full of expectations when joining his new club because he has the opportunity to make his La Liga debut and represent Getafe in the UEFA Conference League.

"I am full of expectations. I want to make my La Liga debut, become a member of this great club, and also have the chance to play European football. For me, this is an important step," he said.

He also said that before accepting the invitation, he asked former Getafe player Milla, who currently plays for Como, about the club. Milla spoke highly of the club and described it as "a family." "That is also what I saw on my first day here. Having teammates like this, the coaching staff, and everyone at the club is truly an honor," he added.

In addition, after completing his first training session under the Alicante-born coach, he was convinced that his characteristics suit Bordalas' style. "The way we train here is just like a match, and that is important," the striker said. He also summarized his main qualities as "fighting for every ball" and "giving everything on the pitch."

The Zaragoza player also explained the origin of his nickname "Shark." The nickname appeared during his time at Zaragoza, when he was with Serrano, Francho Serrano, and Alex Frances. "The nickname came from an injury I suffered. I had to recover in a swimming pool, along with my style of play. Giving everything is my personality and also my way of playing football. The combination of the two created this nickname," Azon said. He stated that he never deliberately promoted the nickname, but it gradually became popular and eventually turned into a "cool" name.
