Liverpool Monitoring Monaco Midfielder Lamine Camara, Could Move in 2027

Liverpool are reportedly preparing for a future move for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, after his deadline-day transfer to Chelsea dramatically collapsed.

Why the Chelsea deal collapsed

The 22-year-old Camara was close to joining Chelsea as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez, but Monaco withdrew from the agreement at the final stage. According to Sky Sports, Chelsea had agreed a six-year contract with Camara, but Monaco refused to complete the transfer.

The situation has opened the door for Liverpool. The club is said to have clearly expressed interest and could make another attempt to sign the Senegal international in 2027.

Liverpool have told Camara he remains in their plans

GiveMeSport journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that Liverpool contacted Camara's representatives and Monaco before the deadline, highlighting their long-term interest in the player.

Jacobs wrote that Liverpool's senior figures made a series of calls on deadline day, telling Camara that if he did not join Chelsea, he would have a high place in Liverpool's plans for 2027. Liverpool had not planned to sign another midfielder after Curtis Jones moved to Inter Milan, and they would only make an offer for Camara in the summer if Alexis Mac Allister were to leave.

Jacobs also said that Camara still dreams of moving to the Premier League and has not ruled out leaving Monaco in January.

Camara is a natural target for Liverpool

Liverpool's interest makes sense. Camara is energetic and technically strong, able to play as a deeper midfielder as well as a more progressive No. 8.
