Transfermarkt: Ben Farhat will choose to represent Germany, Freiburg move creates a win-win situation

According to Transfermarkt, the player developed in Karlsruher's youth system has decided to complete his national team association switch and will represent Germany's national teams at various levels under the German Football Association (DFB) in the future.

For 20-year-old Ben Farhat, after transferring to Freiburg, he is about to make the second important decision in his life planning.

Previously, Ben Farhat had represented Tunisia's youth national teams. Therefore, during the next extended international break, he is likely to receive his first call-up to the Germany U21 national team.

The attacker has already made 2 appearances for Tunisia's senior national team. However, shortly before the start of the World Cup, Ben Farhat decided to withdraw from the tournament being held in North America.

Tunisia head coach at the time Sabri Lamouchi described the decision as a “lack of respect”, while the young player explained that he made the choice because he had previously missed four months in the first half of the season due to a metatarsal fracture and was concerned that playing at the World Cup would create excessive physical strain.

For the Germany U21 national team, upcoming opponents in the U21 European Championship qualifiers include away matches against Latvia (September 26) and Malta (September 30), as well as a home match against Georgia in Bielefeld on October 6.

Ben Farhat's transfer from Karlsruher to Freiburg: a “win-win situation”

His outstanding performances at Karlsruher helped Ben Farhat earn the opportunity to join Freiburg. On the transfer deadline day, Freiburg signed the attacker for 7.5 million euros, but immediately loaned him back to Karlsruher, allowing him to continue his development there for another season.

After the draw with Hannover 96, Ben Farhat said that for him, this arrangement was a “win-win situation”. He was also very pleased that his future had finally been settled.

Eintracht Frankfurt had previously been considered a leading contender for his signature for a long time, but their negotiations with Karlsruher failed to reach an agreement over several weeks. Karlsruher head coach Maximilian Senft said that after the transfer talks ended, he clearly felt Ben Farhat had become “much more relaxed”.

Ben Farhat said that Karlsruher feels like a “second home” to him.

Karlsruher captain Marvin Wanitzek also believes that Farhat's transfer to Freiburg is a “very smart solution, for all parties involved”.

“For this young man, it was a very difficult period and also a lot of pressure for him. But he did not do anything wrong, and he has always behaved very professionally. We are happy that he can continue to stay here.”
