AS: Barcelona’s Summer Signings Successful, Targeting Three Straight La Liga Titles and the Champions League

Through targeted signings and internal promotions this summer, Barcelona have completed a squad upgrade, and the club now has confidence in competing for every trophy in the new season.

Barcelona’s summer transfer window has closed, and the club can look ahead optimistically because they believe the management team did excellent work in the offices and that the squad is ready to challenge for all trophies. The summer objective was to add more high-quality resources to an already competitive squad (which won five trophies over the past two years), and that goal has been achieved. Barcelona signed high-level players such as Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi, Rodri and Gabriel Jorge Jesus. Although Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres departed, with young player Xavi Espart promoted to the first team, Flick now has a more complete squad.

Barcelona currently have two players for every position. The German coach has enough options to handle a long season, with the targets of winning La Liga for a third consecutive time and achieving the dream of lifting the Champions League trophy for the sixth time in the club’s history. The increased squad depth means that even injuries or suspensions would not be considered a major problem. The current squad structure gives the team enough security.

Barcelona’s improvement in strength cannot be underestimated. Gordon won over fans in just three matches, showing speed, power, dribbling ability and team sacrifice; Adeyemi provides depth-running ability and excellent technique, creating threats both by attacking space and through combination play; Rodri brings leadership, balance and stronger awareness to midfield, allowing Pedri to move into a more advanced role. Gabriel Jorge Jesus, the final signing, needs to provide more goals and attacking options. In line with Flick’s style, Barcelona have improved physically and in their ability to compete at a higher tempo.

Another key factor making Barcelona’s management optimistic about the future is that the team remains very young but is no longer lacking experience. Players such as Yamal, Cubarsi, Gerard Martin, Fermin and Marc Bernal have accumulated significant match experience, challenges and responsibilities. With another year of development, they have become better. Barcelona’s young players understand the demands of winning (several of them are already world champions). Finally, there is hunger. After winning trophies in two consecutive seasons, the team still maintains ambition and enters the 2026/27 season with the belief that winning the Champions League is needed to achieve the ultimate breakthrough.

The coaching staff has also received fresh additions, especially in the fitness training department. The basic structure remains unchanged, with Marcus Sorg as assistant coach, Tapalovic and Westermann as assistant coaches, and Jose Ramon de la Fuente as goalkeeper coach. Benjamin Kugel joined the team, replacing Julio Tous as head of fitness training; Lucas del Campo also joined the staff. After the final La Liga match, Flick said: “So far, this path has been very successful, two years and five trophies, but we have the desire to win more. I think we must keep improving the team, and everyone has to improve. We are focused on this, for the future of the club. We are committed to winning trophies, everyone dreams of winning the Champions League. We are working toward that, it is not easy, but we will give everything.”
