Glen Davis: Sterling Lowballing Redick Was Not Because He Was White

Sept. 11 — According to U.S. media outlet Fadeaway World, former Clippers player Glen Davis recently discussed on a podcast the incident in which Donald Sterling was once unwilling to approve J.J. Redick joining the Clippers, while denying that race was the main reason.

When asked whether Sterling was unwilling to offer Redick a high salary because he was white, Davis said: “No, JJ was the ‘white representative.’ Everybody would give JJ a contract. I just felt that at the time he had not played up to the level he should have, so he did not get what he deserved.” Previous reports stated that Sterling had reservations about the Clippers offering Redick a large contract, and some people believed racial factors may have been involved.

Redick was selected by the Magic with the 11th overall pick in the first round of the 2006 NBA Draft and joined the Clippers in 2013. At the time, Doc Rivers wanted to offer him a four-year, $27 million contract. Redick ultimately joined the team and played for the Clippers until 2017.
