Just Released by the Rockets, Newton's G League Rights Acquired by Kings' Affiliate?

According to reporter Jason Anderson, the Stockton Kings, the NBA G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, have successfully acquired the returning player rights of guard Tristen Newton and forward Teddy Allen through a trade. Both players have previously been selected to the All-NBA G League First Team.

The trade also involved the Philadelphia 76ers' G League team, the Delaware Blue Coats, and the Minnesota Timberwolves' G League affiliate, the Iowa Wolves. In exchange, the Delaware Blue Coats received the returning rights of guard Jameer Nelson Jr., while the Iowa Wolves obtained the returning player rights of former Oklahoma City Thunder big man Jalen Williams and the Stockton Kings' second-round pick in the 2027 NBA G League Draft. In addition, the Iowa Wolves received a 2027 first-round pick from the Delaware Blue Coats.

Tristen Newton was selected by the Pacers in the second round of the 2024 draft. During his rookie season, he appeared in five games for the Indiana Pacers, later played three games for the Minnesota Timberwolves, and also appeared in one game for the Houston Rockets last year. Interestingly, Newton previously signed a two-way contract with the Houston Rockets but was waived by the team last week. With this NBA G League trade now completed, it appears to suggest that the Sacramento Kings could soon sign him to an official NBA contract.
