CBA Summer League Roundup: Zhao Rui Scores 16+4 as Beijing Edges Shandong, Liaoning Beats Fujian, Guangsha Suffers 35-Point Loss to Qingdao

On September 2 Beijing time, the CBA Qingdao stop of the Summer League officially began, with four games played on the opening day. Beijing defeated Shandong 85-82, with Zhao Rui scoring 16 points, three assists, three rebounds and four steals, while Raymond scored 17 points. Liaoning beat Fujian 80-76, with Duan Ruiqi recording 7 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in his debut, and Zhang Chenzhifeng scoring 16 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Guangsha suffered an 84-59 loss to Qingdao, with Wang Yibo scoring 12 points, Lin Weikai contributing 13 points and 4 rebounds, and Sun Minghui posting 12 points and 5 assists. Shanxi lost narrowly to Tianjin 100-104, with Zhao Jiaren scoring 19 points and 5 rebounds, and Zhang Ning scoring 19 points.

The Beijing versus Shandong game marked Wang Lanqin's debut for Shandong. He played 25 minutes, shooting 2-of-7 for 8 points, 4 assists and 1 rebound, showing a decent performance. Zhao Rui's statistics for Beijing looked good, but his actual shooting efficiency was relatively low, as he made only 5 of 15 attempts. Zhao Rui's current physical condition is not ideal, and his movements appeared somewhat restricted, preventing him from fully displaying his abilities. Zhou Qi did not play because he had not yet fully recovered from injury.

In Liaoning's victory over Fujian, many of Liaoning's young players saw action, with as many as five players scoring in double figures.

Highly regarded young interior player Zhang Chenzhifeng performed well, shooting 7-of-8 and recording a near double-double. With Liaoning's former interior duo having retired, Zhang Chenzhifeng has essentially become the future of Liaoning's frontcourt. New addition Duan Ruiqi had an average performance. His athletic ability has declined somewhat after a major injury, but his foundation remains, and Liaoning's significant investment to bring him in appears worthwhile. Li Huyi also played well, finishing with 13 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist.

After major roster changes this summer, Zhejiang Guangsha's strength declined significantly. With the team's two key players not yet back, Sun Minghui led the squad, but they ultimately suffered a 35-point defeat to Qingdao. Meanwhile, Shanxi fought through four quarters before losing to Tianjin by four points. In his debut for the team, Zhao Jiaren matched the impressive three-point shooting display of his twin brother Zhao Jiayi with the national team, making 5 of 8 three-point attempts and scoring 19 points and 5 rebounds. Liu Chuanxing also recorded a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Wang Junjie, who also made his Shanxi debut, had a quiet performance, shooting 1-of-5 for 4 points and 2 assists.
