Key to the 76ers' Successful Signing: Behind the Scenes of the Jayson Brown Trade with the Celtics

According to The Athletic reporter Tony Jones, the Philadelphia 76ers made several important moves during this offseason, with the biggest highlight being the successful completion of a trade with the Boston Celtics to acquire former Celtics wing star Jayson Brown. During the process, team president of basketball operations Mike Gansey's persistence and continued efforts played a crucial role.

Gansey told Jones: “Some trades take two years to complete, and the reason is simple: we have been actively communicating. We kept following up on this deal and finally got the player we wanted. Of course, this situation cannot happen every time, but we always do everything we can to make sure we put in enough effort. The discussions with Boston about the Jayson trade lasted several weeks. We kept expressing our interest and kept knocking on that door.”

In last season's NBA regular season, Brown played 71 games for the Celtics, averaging 34.4 minutes per game and recording 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.4 blocks per game. He averaged 3.6 turnovers and 2.7 fouls, while shooting 47.7% from the field, 34.7% from three-point range and 79.5% from the free-throw line. In the playoffs, Brown's average playing time increased to 35.6 minutes over seven games, as he averaged 25.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.1 blocks, while shooting 45.5% from the field, 40.5% from three-point range and 71.7% from the free-throw line. This summer, the 76ers sent out not only Paul George but also two future first-round picks and two future second-round picks to ultimately acquire Brown.
