Bronny James' future with the Lakers is currently one of the most talked-about uncertainties in the NBA. LeBron James has already signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, and many outside voices speculate that Bronny may follow his father to Philadelphia to play.

Based on current reports, the Lakers do not plan to simply waive Bronny James. If they were to move him, the team would hope to receive corresponding value in return. The organization recognizes Bronny as a player, and giving him up solely because his father changed teams is not the Lakers' approach.

Team insider Trevor Lane analyzed the operational possibilities: “Can the Lakers move on from Bronny? He has a team option for next season. The team can decline that option and waive him directly. This would create about $2.3 million in dead money and would only affect this season's salary ledger, so it would not be a devastating consequence. That said, Bronny actually played quite well last season, quietly posting a 39% three-point shooting percentage.”

Author's view: Although it may sound surprising, he personally does not recommend that the Lakers give up on Bronny. While finishing a career together as father and son would be a great story, setting emotions aside and looking entirely from the team's perspective, Bronny should still remain on the roster. The only situation in which the Lakers should consider moving him is if they can find a more suitable end-of-the-bench reserve option.
