The Athletic Show Returns for Season Two, First Episode Focuses on Fallout from Clippers Salary Cap Circumvention Controversy

According to The Athletic, its program “The Athletic Show” has returned after its first season with a new season of content.

The first season took viewers inside the Curry family, including exclusive interviews with Stephen and Dell, behind the scenes of NFL RedZone, and the arenas that shaped the WNBA labor dispute.

The second season is hosted by Zena Keita and Robert Mays. It will dive into the NFL and NBA, inviting The Athletic writers and sports figures each week to provide insight into developing stories.

Keita said she is excited for the show to continue highlighting the talent and personalities in the newsroom while providing a deeper look at how the stories on the website are produced.

The first episode features Pulitzer Prize winner Torre. Torre and his team spent more than a year investigating a questionable endorsement contract involving then-Clippers star Kawhi Leonard, with the process also involving the team's management, owner Steve Ballmer, and several companies connected to the team. The matter ultimately led to league punishment and an ongoing investigation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The report noted that people following the matter are familiar with the phrase “there is more.” On the program, Torre placed the events that had already happened into context and outlined what could happen next.

The second season launched alongside the 2026 NFL season, and the hosts said it was exciting to go deeper into the biggest stage in American sports.

Mays said he knows The Athletic's NFL team well and appreciates the way they approach their work. He believes one of the strengths of The Athletic is that everyone brings their own method, and it is great to give audiences a glimpse behind the scenes and show that.
