On September 10 Beijing time, Rockets rookie Thornton accepted an interview with Sports Illustrated, discussing his draft experience and his plans for the new season.

Thornton admitted that being selected by the Rockets was completely unexpected. Before the draft, he had never participated in an interview or workout with the Rockets. When he received the draft call, he was extremely shocked. He also said that it was a great honor that the team chose to proactively bring him to Houston.

Thornton delivered an impressive performance in the Summer League, averaging 18.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 2.6 steals per game, showing strong impact on both ends of the court. Joining a championship-contending team, his goal is practical: do his job well, find his role on the team, and work to earn consistent playing time. Winning a championship is also one of his goals.

What impressed him most was the opportunity to become teammates with his childhood idol Durant. Thornton revealed that he had watched Durant play since he was young and often wore Durant's Christmas colorway sneakers with his brother. When he first joined the team, playing alongside his idol felt unreal, but he now views Durant as a teammate fighting alongside him.

In my view, Thornton has already shown his talent in the Summer League. As long as he continues to steadily refine the details of his game, he has a strong chance to earn a spot in the Rockets' regular rotation in the new season.
