Signed Again! Dillon Jones Joins the 76ers — What Can He Bring?

The 76ers have made another move.

According to an official announcement from the Philadelphia 76ers, the team has officially signed 24-year-old wing Dillon Jones to an Exhibit 10 contract.

Like previous Exhibit 10 signees Tacky Fall, Jameer Nelson Jr., and Saint Thomas, Dillon Jones will participate in the 76ers' training camp and will be eligible to play for Philadelphia in the preseason.

Before the regular season begins, however, the 76ers must decide whether to convert these Exhibit 10 contracts into two-way contracts; otherwise, they will have to waive the players. In other words, it remains uncertain whether these players will ultimately stay on the 76ers roster.

Let's take another look at Dillon Jones. This player is not ordinary.

First, consider this statistic: among current NBA players, only 12 players have won two or more championships. They are:

— Four championships: LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green

— Three championships: Kevon Looney

— Two championships: OG Anunoby, Alex Caruso, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Kawhi Leonard, Jrue Holiday, Kevin Durant, and Dillon Jones

Dillon Jones is 1.96 meters tall and is currently 24 years old. He spent four years in college, and in his fourth season averaged 20.8 points, 9.8 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 2.0 steals per game.

The Thunder selected him because they valued his immediate readiness as an older prospect. Unfortunately, Dillon Jones did not show the level expected of him.

In his rookie season, he played 54 regular-season games for the Thunder, averaging only 10.2 minutes per game while recording 2.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.1 assists. His shooting percentages were just 38.3%/25.4%/60.7%, and his true shooting percentage was only 46.4%.

In the playoffs, Dillon Jones followed the Thunder to a championship, but his playing time was extremely limited. He appeared in only 10 games, averaged 4.6 minutes per game, and scored just 2.3 points per game.

Because his performance was far from ideal, combined with the Thunder's roster optimization and salary pressure last summer, Oklahoma City gave up on Dillon Jones after just one season.

In a trade, the Thunder sent Dillon Jones and a second-round pick to the Wizards. Washington also did not view him as part of its future and quickly waived him.

It should be noted that although the Thunder are regarded as an NBA talent-development program with excellent drafting and development abilities, Dillon Jones was an exception and was one of Sam Presti's less successful choices.

In the 2025 draft, the Thunder sent five second-round picks to acquire the No. 26 pick used on Dillon Jones. Later, they also gave up another second-round pick in trading him, meaning six second-round picks effectively resulted in a one-year lottery ticket that produced no reward.

Looking at the players selected after Dillon Jones: No. 27 pick Terrence Shannon Jr., No. 28 pick Ryan Dunn, No. 29 pick Collier, and No. 30 pick Scheierman. These four players are clearly performing better than Dillon Jones and have established themselves as regular rotation players on their respective teams.

Returning to Dillon Jones, after being waived by the Wizards, he was fortunate to be signed by the Knicks.

Last season, Dillon Jones played seven games for the Knicks on a two-way contract, averaging only 5.6 minutes per game and producing just 1.3 points and 1.0 rebounds, with a 22.2% field-goal percentage.

His performance was very poor, and he was almost a fringe bench player, but as a member of the Knicks, he still followed the team to win a championship.

Many stars may never win a championship ring in their careers, but Dillon Jones was very fortunate, achieving back-to-back championships in the first two seasons of his career.

Now Dillon Jones has a chance to achieve a three-peat, provided he can stay with the 76ers and help the team win a championship. Either goal will be difficult.

If you remember, Patrick McCaw once achieved a three-peat after entering the league (2017-2019). However, McCaw was much stronger than Dillon Jones; one year after completing the three-peat, he averaged 24.5 minutes per game with the Raptors.

Dillon Jones has been fortunate, but he is still fighting for an NBA roster spot. Whether this two-time champion stays with the 76ers or is waived and sent to the G League will be known next month.
