Brown on Leaving Boston: Disappointed but More Focused on New Opportunities in Philadelphia

Two months have passed, but Jaylen Brown still has not completely gotten over his disappointment. Everyone saw his split with the Boston Celtics, but almost no one expected the Philadelphia 76ers to become his next destination. Now, Brown is adjusting to a new city, embracing the changes while also dealing with everything he left behind. For his family, the move has brought a completely different set of adjustments.

“Disappointed, but more focused on the excitement”

Brown spoke with Mahershala Ali for The Hollywood Reporter. Ali asked the 29-year-old player how he looks back on the transition from Boston to Philadelphia, including the emotional adjustment and whether LeBron James joining the 76ers affected how he felt about this unexpected change.

“Obviously, there was some level of disappointment, especially with the way things played out in Boston toward the end, but I’m also very excited about the opportunity. I’m more focused on the excitement. The past is the past, and I’m going to put all my energy into it,” Jaylen Brown said.

He added: “There’s a lot to deal with—moving everything, bringing your family, finding a new place to live, saying goodbye to the places you had become accustomed to in Boston, and now looking for new things in Philadelphia. It’s like a rebirth, another form of transformation. I’m looking forward to seeing the process unfold step by step. There are a lot of things to look forward to.”

Philadelphia’s Changes Go Beyond Brown

Moving to a new city means starting everything over. For Jaylen and his family, this is more than just a geographical move. When the 76ers acquired him in a trade, everyone was concerned about the team’s situation for next season, particularly Joel Embiid’s ongoing injury issues. But after Brown’s arrival, the team’s management began operating in different ways.

The 76ers signed LeBron James in free agency to a two-year, $7.95 million veteran minimum contract. But that was not the only change in Philadelphia. Earlier in August, a training video of Embiid sparked heated discussion online, with him appearing to have lost at least 30 pounds.
