Reporter Pablo Torre: Kawhi Leonard Could Not Have Been Unaware of What Happened; There Are Documents, Contracts and Signatures

The Clippers were heavily punished by the NBA for violating recruitment rules, losing five first-round draft picks and being fined $30 million. Reporter Pablo Torre said on a podcast that Leonard could not have been unaware of what happened.

After a year-long investigation, the NBA issued its final ruling regarding the Clippers' alleged improper recruitment related to Leonard. The Clippers were stripped of five first-round draft picks, while team owner Ballmer was fined $30 million. Jerry West and Lawrence Frank were also each fined separately.

Reporter Pablo Torre discussed the matter on A. Smith's podcast. The reporter said: “I strongly believe young people should be treated as young people, but Kawhi Leonard is 35 years old. We have documents, and we also have that Aspiration contract, an $28 million contract with his signature on it. We have records of the flow of funds. And by the way, there is also his own signature on NBA-related scheduling documents, and that is very clear. This was not Danny Rob (the agent) signing the contract; it was the Leonard family who signed it. He requested that Aspiration change the original payment method intended for him. Their final explanation was: ‘We will pay you part each year in the form of stock and another part in the form of salary.’”

The reporter emphasized that Leonard was deeply involved in the details of the contract, with records showing his involvement from requesting changes to the payment method to ultimately signing documents. In his view, Leonard's level of knowledge about the matter cannot be explained simply as being unaware.
