Kwame Brown Speaks Out: McGee’s Mistakes Are Highlighted, While James’ Are Ignored

Former NBA player Kwame Brown directly addressed the phenomenon of JaVale McGee’s mistakes being collected and amplified on the show "Kwame Brown’s Bust Life," saying he believes this kind of treatment is unfair.

"Every player can have a compilation of Shaqtin' moments."

Kwame Brown said this was the part he has never understood. Basketball naturally contains mistakes, and similar clips can be found from any player, which does not prove anything by itself. He further gave examples involving Shaquille O’Neal, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James, saying similar plays can also be found from them. In his view, repeatedly selecting and replaying McGee’s mistakes alone is meaningless.

He added that basketball is a sport full of mistakes, and only selecting and magnifying one person’s errors is not a smart approach. He said people do not treat players this way in other sports, while in basketball some people specifically collect and amplify one player’s mistakes.

"If it were LeBron James, what would the comments section say?"

Kwame Brown then shifted the discussion toward what he described as a double standard in public opinion. He asked what the general reaction would be if James’ mistakes were the ones being highlighted. People would say, "you are a hater." But when the same thing happens to McGee, he argued that it is accepted without the same criticism.

He continued by saying that everyone makes low-level mistakes. If James were treated this way, people would say it was prejudice against him; if O’Neal were treated this way, similar accusations would also arise. He therefore questioned: "So, isn’t McGee Black?"
