According to Yahoo Sports reporter Kelly Iko, the Los Angeles Clippers' optimism for the new season mainly depends on Darius Garland's health status and his performance on the court. The 26-year-old point guard has been dealing with a toe injury since he was traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Clippers in February. Despite that, in the 19 games he played for the Clippers, Garland continued to show efficient individual ability, averaging 19.9 points and 6.4 assists per game, helping the Clippers secure a spot in the play-in tournament.

Iko noted that Garland's arrival will greatly benefit the development of the team's shooters, especially Max Strus. Strus previously played alongside Garland with the Cavaliers, and he was brought to the Clippers through the earlier five-team trade involving Peyton Watson. The two players could potentially create new chemistry together. In addition, Garland's arrival could help Gradey Dick regain his form. Dick was part of the Clippers' trade with the Toronto Raptors involving Kawhi Leonard. Although he showed potential in his first two seasons, his playing time decreased significantly last season, and his statistics also dropped noticeably.

On the other hand, Iko also mentioned that if Brandon Ingram replaces Kawhi Leonard in the starting lineup, the Clippers' defense could face challenges. He believes this is also an important reason why the Clippers were eager to sign Rui Hachimura from their local rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, in order to strengthen the team's overall depth and competitiveness.
