Lakers Ownership Dispute Hearing Postponed Until December

New developments have emerged in the Los Angeles Lakers ownership dispute case. According to the California Post, Jeanie Buss' lawyer Adam Streisand filed a postponement request with the Los Angeles Superior Court, seeking to move the hearing originally scheduled for November 5 to December 8. The request has been approved by the judge.

Streisand said he "plans to attend two speaking events in Europe and will not return to Los Angeles until November 18."

The core of the dispute is that Jeanie Buss' siblings want to sell the family's remaining 17.8% stake to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger. Jeanie Buss opposes the proposed sale.

Analyst Kelvin Washington commented on the “The Odd Couple” podcast: "Some people's identities are closely tied to something. I think Jeanie Buss loves the identity of being the 'Los Angeles girl who became the owner.' 'My father was the owner and savior of the Lakers, and that has become our family's legacy. In the competition with my other siblings over the inheritance, I won. In the succession battle after my father's death, I became the owner, or the leader.'"

After Jerry Buss died in 2013, Jeanie took over the Lakers' top leadership role. She had already gained experience in multiple key positions within the organization. Her father's estate placed the family's controlling stake in a trust, giving the six children equal voting rights.
