CBA Summer League Qingdao: Qingdao Men’s Basketball Team Beats Shandong 72-66 in Derby, Faces Beijing in Final

On September 5, the 2026 CBA Summer League Qingdao event entered the semifinal stage. That night, Group A top-ranked Qingdao faced Group B second-ranked Shandong in the "Qilu Derby." The two teams stayed close in the early stages, and Qingdao did not build a double-digit lead until the latter part of the second quarter. Duan Angjun, who returned from specialized training in the United States, came off the bench and scored 10 points, while young player Li Xianjun recorded a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double to help Qingdao defeat Shandong 72-66.

As a warm-up league before the CBA regular season, the Summer League not only provides practical experience for teams to improve tactical coordination, but also gives many young players an opportunity to showcase the results of their training. In this semifinal, Shandong Hi-Speed Men’s Basketball Team continued to evaluate the chemistry between new additions such as Wang Lanqin and Zhu Mingzhen and the team, while key players including Tao Hanlin, Chen Linjian and Guo Kai did not play. Qingdao also gave young players Zhang Haobo, Li Junxian and Cong Ruiyan more opportunities to perform. Key player Wang Ruizhe played only 10 minutes, and Duan Angjun also appeared only as a substitute.

It is worth mentioning that Qingdao’s young interior player Li Junxian performed impressively. Against the experienced Yang Wenxue, he not only made a three-pointer from outside but also scored strongly inside, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds in 24 minutes. As a young player competing in the CBA for the first year, a double-double is a solid performance for a center. In addition to the stable play of their interior presence, Qingdao also received contributions from multiple players on the perimeter. Wang Ruizhe’s three perfect three-pointers provided the young players with a vivid lesson through real-game experience. After this game, all of Qingdao’s domestic players had made appearances before the new CBA season.

In the other semifinal played earlier, Beijing defeated Shanxi 85-77. It is understood that this Summer League Beijing roster includes several former national team players, including Zhao Rui, Zhai Xiaochuan, Raymond, Zhou Qi and Zeng Fanbo. However, Zhou Qi and Zeng Fanbo did not appear in either the group stage or the semifinal. According to the schedule, Qingdao will face Beijing on the evening of September 6 for the Summer League championship.
