Sam Quinn: Brunson gained security from early extension, smaller guards need to avoid injury risks

Sept. 5 — NBA writer Sam Quinn recently discussed Jalen Brunson's early extension with the Knicks, saying that people often overlook the sense of security Brunson gained by signing the deal early.

Sam Quinn said: "People also seem to forget that Brunson actually gained something by signing early, and that is security. He is a smaller guard, and it has been less than a decade since Isaiah Thomas saw his long-term earning potential affected by an injury. He sacrificed some potential upside in order to eliminate risk."

The Knicks finished the regular season with a 53-29 record, ranking third in the Eastern Conference.
